Canosio

The gate to Gardetta

Canosio

Located in a remote position in a side valley of the Maira River, Canosio has managed to preserve extremely interesting ancient architecture in its 16 villages and hamlets. Here in the Ubac district, you can admire the most famous village house, a typical architecture of the valley.

This is the town from where you can set out to visit the Gardetta plateau, recognised in 2001 as an Italian Geological Heritage site thanks to the visible presence of prehistoric fossil remains. You will discover dinosaur footprints, framed by towering limestone mountains. From prehistoric times, we move on to more recent history, with the remains of military barracks from the first half of the 20th century.

While the highest peaks attract climbers and experienced hikers, its hamlets and plateaus are perfect for family walks.
