CULTURAL WALKS OF THE ECOMUSEUM OF THE UPPER MAIRA VALLEY – SAN MICHELE DI PRAZZO

CULTURAL WALKS OF THE ECOMUSEUM OF THE UPPER MAIRA VALLEY – SAN MICHELE DI PRAZZO

On the last Saturday in September, free cultural walks to discover the villages of the Ecomuseum municipalities, organized in collaboration with Chamin guides, will take place in S. Michele di Prazzo, on the occasion of the Patron Saint’s Day.

There will be two itineraries to discover the architecture of the villages of San Michele di Prazzo, held in the morning and afternoon.

In the morning, the walk “Al vecchio mulino” (To the old mill) will offer the opportunity to admire the Parish Church of San Michele di Prazzo, built in the first half of the 19th century on the ruins of the existing Romanesque church, of which the apse and bell tower remain. The walk will continue to the ancient water-powered mill, one of the best preserved in the Maira Valley, with its stone millstone. The walk will then return to San Michele di Prazzo.

Meeting point in San Michele di Prazzo, in front of the parish church.

Departure at 10:00 a.m. and arrival at 12:30/1:00 p.m.

Duration of the visit: 2.5/3 hours

In the afternoon, the walk “Discovering San Michele” will focus on the villages around S. Michele di Prazzo. It will begin with a visit to the former Town Hall of San Michele, with its façade painted with figures from the Risorgimento. It will continue towards San Vittore, once owned by the monks of Villar San Costanzo, a crossroads of numerous paths. The walk will continue to admire the architecture of the stone and wood huts, which have been skilfully restored.

Meeting point in S. Michele di Prazzo, in front of the former Town Hall.

Departure at 2.30 pm and arrival at 5.00/5.30 pm.

Duration of the visit: 2.5/3 hours.

The walks are free of charge, in collaboration with the Chamin guides.

The walks are included in the list of initiatives planned for the 2025 European Heritage Days, whose theme is “Heritage and Architecture.”
