From the Gippiera pass, you have a spectacular view of Lac des Neuf Couleurs or Lake Nove Colori.

The lake is probably not named so because of the beautiful shades of colour of its waters, which change with the weather. It may actually derive from a mispronunciation of the original name, Lac des Neuf Couloirs, meaning Lake of the Nine Couloirs. An appropriate name, because, looking from the lake at the imposing South face of the Aiguille de Chambeyron, it is possible to count nine debris conoids at the foot of as many gullies.

The best way to enjoy the lake and this part of the mountain with its grandiose walls is to walk the ring of the same name. A challenging but highly satisfying hike.
