Andrea and Maria Trail

Andrea and Maria Trail

In July 1980, two foreign tourists, Andrea and Maria Schneider, came to the Maira valley by mistake and, having seen so much beauty, decided to take up residence in San Martino inferiore di Stroppo, where they started a new tourist awareness thanks to the Cultural Centre and the Occitan Paths trail network.

The German couple who came to Stroppo were able to create the foundations of a new tourism that involves the accommodation facilities in the area and attracts more and more foreign tourists to the Maira valley.

The story of the Schneider couple was interrupted in 2004 with the death of Andrea and in 2022 with that of Maria, but continued along the lines of their example with the many people who shared the journey with them. As a sign of gratitude for what they have done in over thirty years in the valley, and so that their example may in some way live on, the municipal administration has decided to dedicate a hiking trail around some of the hamlets of Stroppo to them.
