WALK AMIDST NATURE AND CULTURE AT PIAN DELLA COLLA
FINAL EVENT IN CELLE DI MACRA ON SATURDAY, JUNE 20, 2026 WITH THE
WALK AMIDST NATURE AND CULTURE AT PIAN DELLA COLLA
The final event in Celle di Macra features the WALK AMIDST NATURE AND CULTURE, dedicated to the environment and the natural and built landscape of part of the Celle territory, as part of the event series “Environmental Sustainability Days”.
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, in the afternoon, a walk will be offered to discover the lesser-known settlements of Celle di Macra in the eastern part of the municipal area.
This guided walk will allow you to discover the unique features of the environment and the hamlets located in the eastern part of the Celle territory, bordering the former municipality of Paglieres, with a focus on the natural, environmental, architectural, artistic, and cultural characteristics of these ancient Alpine settlements and their surroundings.
The walk starts from Castellaro, the highest hamlet in the Municipality of Celle di Macra, which features a unique ancient medieval layout throughout the valley, with buildings positioned atop a hill adjacent to an imposing structure called Il Castello or Cantunal.
Here, you can admire the Cantunal complex (a medieval manor house with sail-shaped facades, mullioned windows, and portals), the Chapel of Saint Anne with its frescoes and large portico, the enclosed community oven, and a series of ancient mountain huts featuring underpasses, lancet windows, stone portals, and frescoes.
From the top of the settlement, you climb along the path, which winds through trees and old cultivated fields, to reach Pian della Colla, one of the most evocative places from an environmental and landscape perspective in the Celle territory: a vast plateau from which you can enjoy a wide panorama of the Valley.
From the Colla area, the path descends to the hamlet of Soglio Soprano, divided into two groups of houses known as Bianchi (the current Soglio Soprano) and Belloni, whose names derive from the surnames of the families who once lived there.
In Soglio Soprano (Bianchi), once home to one of the three primary schools in Celle di Macra, there are several houses with round columns and the Chapel of Saint Magnus, featuring a portico that extends along the hamlet’s road.
From here, the route continues to the settlement of Soglio Belloni, characterized by a series of houses with large barns facing the valley.
Then, you descend to the hamlet of Soglio Sottano, located on the municipal border and nestled in the valley; its huts share the characteristics of houses in the lower valley, and here you can admire the Chapel of Saint Bernard, with a facade frescoed by Gauteri, and a house featuring a painting by Giors Boneto da Paesana.
From here you return to Borgata Castellaro.
The walk is aimed at a diverse audience, including children and families, young people, and adults passionate about the environment and the landscape of the Maira Valley.
The day will conclude with a snack for everyone featuring local products to be enjoyed in Borgata Castellaro.
The activity is organized in collaboration with the Chamin guides.
