Variante PO (Chialvetta – Preit)

Variante PO (Chialvetta – Preit)

From the Preit car park (1549m), head towards the Preit pass and then immediately turn right onto a path that leads to the Soleglio Bue pass. The path immediately becomes steep and then even steeper once you reach Grange Soleglio Bue. From this alpine pastureland,  continue along the Occitan routes, coming out on a dirt track that with a few bends takes you up to the Soleglio Bue pass.

From here, you can choose to make two detours: the first is towards the easy summit of Rocca delle Sommette, which does not offer any particular technical difficulties and is a very panoramic point with views of the surrounding peaks, including Rocca la Meja, Monte la Bianca and Cassorso; the second is towards Monte Piutas, a little-known peak, but which also offers breathtaking scenery.

As you approach the mountain, the walls seem impassable, but if you lose a little altitude and go around the rock face, you reach a short gully. It is important to be very careful on the ascent to avoid making stones and debris fall. A helmet is recommended for protection. This summit is not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo. There is not much space at the top. Returning to the pass, continue towards Chialvetta: a steep descent through scree that becomes gentler as you approach your destination.
