Hiking trail of the Adrech hamlets
Adrech is an Occitan name for a place located on a sunny slope and derives from the Latin locution ad rectum solem or “Direct Sun.”
Bargia, Oliva, Lausetto, Colombata and Ponte Maira are the 5 hamlets connected by the path of the hamlets and are part of Acceglio, the municipality with the largest territorial extension in the valley and already mentioned in 1028 in the act of foundation of the monastery of Caramagna.
The place name Acceglio seems to derive from the Latin ad cilium or from the Celtic ocelum or oscelum and stands for a place on high ground or even on the edge of the river.
Acceglio has a natural vocation for slow tourism, already expressed at the beginning of the last century when it was possible to reach it by stagecoach: from Dronero it was a good six-hour journey along a
winding road that only partly retraced the current carriageway.
