(65) Sentiero della Fede (Faith Path)

Ring itinerary that crosses some villages of the municipality of Macra and Celle di Macra and attests to many testimonies of popular devotion (pylons, chapels), as well as allowing a visit to the renowned Parish Church of Celle Macra.
From the square of the town hall of Macra, continue for a few meters on the state road and before Rio Bedale, turn left and take the dirt road that descends along the village, skirting the “La ruà” holiday home and continuing up to the Chapel of St. James. Beyond the chapel of San Giacomo, turn right along the old road of Valle Maira (asphalted), cross the Rio Bedale, until you get onto the provincial road for Celle di Macra. Continue along the provincial road in the direction of Celle di Macra until you come to the locality of “Lu puntet” on the left, recognizable by a recently built wooden bridge which allows you to cross the Rio Celle.
Take the path beside the bridge and following the yellow notches of the Percorsi Occitani along the Got local road, go up through the woods passing under the portico of the Chiamburnas pylon (969m, frescoes by S. Antonio Abate dated 1863). You will soon reach a second pylon by the 7 Aimar brothers, built in 1923 as a grace received (inside there are photographs of the clients who returned unharmed from the First World War). From here, going up along the path, you reach the hamlet of Bassura di Celle Macra (1072 m), where some houses still have carved larch balconies.
Cross the Celle provincial road and climb towards the chapel dedicated to Saints Chiaffredo and Vitale, climb towards the upper part of the hamlet, to cross the provincial road again and take a path that continues towards Antibu. After passing Antibu (made up of two houses and an oven), continue along the path until you reach a crossroads marked by a stone cross.
Continue along the path on the left which runs alongside a white pylon with a restored wall structure: inside there are frescoes of a Madonna with Child between Saints Anthony and Matthew, with Saints Catherine and Saint Angela on either side. Cross the paved provincial road that goes up to Celle Capoluogo, and after a short stretch on the path, at the new junction with the provincial road, turn right and take an unpaved carriage road that reaches the lower part of Borgata Paschero. Turn left and continue along the pedestrian lane inside the town of Paschero (1195m) which climbs up to the Cappella dell’Assunta, to continue beyond the town and take a path which climbs towards the hamlet of Chiesa (1270m) where in the parish church of San Giovanni Battista there is a polyptych by Hans Clemer, a true jewel of sacred art.
Continue on the asphalted Chiotto municipal road passing in front of the Pinse Museum Section (above the sacristy of the Parish Church) to the Town Hall (where the GTA stage post is located), until you reach the Chapel of San Sebastiano.
From here, take the path upstream of the Chiotto municipal road and reach the crossroads with the mule track identified as the Paglieres municipal road. At the crossroads marked by a white-plastered votive pillar, turn left and go down towards Borgata Chiesa, where you skirt the Seles degli accuigai museum, the apiary, the wash house, the Borgata Chiesa inn until you reach the parish square.
Then continue on the Boschi municipal road, and at the 1st crossroads with the Ansoleglio road, turn left, take it and continue up to the Chapel of San Pietro. From here, continue along the pedestrian road that crosses the hamlet, arriving at the oven and climbing up the path that connects to the carriage road that serves the upper part of the Ansoleglio hamlet. At the crossroads between the path and the unpaved road, turn left and take the cart track (direction San Damiano) which, near the town, runs alongside a recently restored pylon, and which at first slightly uphill and then flat, leads to the Marcassa pylon with frescoed portico with a Madonna between Saints Anthony and Joseph. Going slightly downhill you then reach the Chapel of San Giacomo (1270m), with the portico that protects the frescoed facade (hence a small detour to the left leads to the site of the Cava di Sabbia) and continuing on you arrive at another pylon (1220m) which it rises in a hairpin bend, decorated with a Madonna and Child between Saints Magnus and Maurice.
Take the silvo-pastoral track which passes in front of the pylon and descends along the slope and continues up to the pylon of San Vitale. 50 meters before the Pilone di San Vitale, take a small path on the left which descends into the beech wood towards Villetta di Macra.
Proceeding on a layer of dry leaves, you descend quickly to the crossroads with a dirt road which, followed to the left, leads to the top of the hamlet of Villetta (815m).
Descend between the houses of the Villetta hamlet as far as the small square where the oven is located. From here, take the path (adjacent to the oven) that coincides with the old mule track and descend until you reach the crossroads with the mule track called the ancient Strada della Villetta (signposted by a votive pillar). Continue in the direction of Macra and at the crossroads with the paved road of Villetta, turn right and continue along the road, cross the bridge and reach the state road of Valle Maira. Continue for a few meters along the state road, cross it and take a small path that climbs towards Borgata Villar.
The path ends up along the municipal road of Villar (asphalted), take it in a right direction and continue until the crossroads with the mule track that leads to Camoglieres. A small detour along the mule track allows you to admire the Chapel of San Pietro famous for the frescoes of the Danse Macabre. Returning to the paved Villar road, continue towards the Borgata where you can admire a Pylon by Gauteri and the Parish Church dedicated to San Marcellino. From the parochial churchyard, continue along the path that points north, known as the Pusou municipal road, up to the crossroads with the path that comes from the hamlet of Bedale. At the crossroads, turn left and descend along the Rio Bedale until you reach the state road of Valle Maira. Then turn left and walk along the state road for a few meters until you reach Piazza del Municipio in Macra.
