Tour to Rifugio Gardetta

Tour to Rifugio Gardetta

A scenic and rewarding MTB/E-MTB itinerary, perfect for those who want to experience the authentic atmosphere of the Gardetta Plateau amidst nature, military history, and alpine landscapes among the most beautiful in the Western Alps.

Departure from the campsite located just beyond the junction for Marmora, heading toward Colle del Preit. The itinerary unfolds in the magnificent Gardetta Valley, one of the most spectacular corners of Valle Maira, immersed in a wild alpine environment and dominated by the majestic Rocca La Meja.
The ascent initially takes place on asphalt for approximately 9.3 km, with a constant but never excessive gradient, ideal to tackle at your own pace. Only in the last switchbacks before Colle del Preit are there some more demanding steep sections. Upon reaching the pass, the panorama suddenly opens onto the incredible Gardetta Plateau: a unique environment characterized by vast high-altitude pastures, old military roads, and spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

From Colle del Preit, the asphalt ends and the final 4 km begin on a gravel road, generally in good condition and rideable by everyone, until reaching Rifugio Gardetta, the perfect spot for a break immersed in the silence of the plateau. The refuge also offers the possibility to recharge e-bikes.

The descent follows the same route as the outbound journey, fast and fun, but by following the track in the upper section, it is also possible to include two or three short trail variants: easy and flowing sections that make the return even more enjoyable without significantly increasing the technical difficulty.
