Ciciu del Villar Loop
An easy, varied, and attraction-filled itinerary, perfect for a day of cycling to discover the natural, historical, and cultural beauties of the lower Maira Valley.
A very pleasant cycling route suitable for everyone, which develops mainly on quiet, low-traffic paved roads and charming gravel paths. Thanks to the modest slopes—which only become slightly steeper in the San Costanzo al Monte area—and the generally smooth surface, it represents an ideal proposal for families, cycle tourists, and those wishing to ride without particular difficulty.
The itinerary allows you to discover the territory at the entrance of the Maira Valley, an area often less known than the upper valley but rich in history, landscapes, and cultural heritage of great value.
Among the main points of interest is the Pedancola, a characteristic footbridge suspended over the Maira stream built in the style of a small Tibetan bridge, which offers a charming passage and an unusual perspective on the watercourse.
The route then leads to the famous Ciciu del Villar, one of the most fascinating geological sites in Piedmont. These particular earth columns topped by large boulders, shaped over millennia by erosion, create a unique and spectacular landscape of great naturalistic value.
Another stop of significant interest is the Church of San Costanzo al Monte, one of the most important religious buildings in the area. Situated in a panoramic position, it preserves medieval origins and is considered a precious example of Alpine Romanesque architecture, immersed in a natural context of great tranquility.
The starting and finishing point of the itinerary is the historic Dronero, the lively gateway to the Maira Valley. The historic center preserves elegant buildings and characteristic views, but its most famous symbol is the Devil’s Bridge, a spectacular single-arched medieval bridge that crosses the Maira stream and is shrouded in ancient legends.
