The Consortium
For slow, experiential, and respectful tourism
The Valle Maira Tourism Consortium was established in August 2013 by a group of local entrepreneurs, united by the desire to tell and promote an authentic, untouched territory, far from mass tourism circuits. We are a non-profit consortium, recognized since 2019 by the Piedmont Region as a Tourism Consortium of regional importance. Since 2021, we have also operated as a DMC (Destination Management Company) under the name Visit Valle Maira.
Today, the Consortium brings together over 120 members: accommodation facilities, restaurateurs, producers, artisans, farmers, and service operators who, together, help build and preserve the identity of the valley.
The heart of our work is promoting slow tourism, encouraging visitors to discover the Valle Maira at the right pace and with the right time. A tourism of attention, listening, and presence, where the experience matters more than speed.
Hikers, MTB and e-MTB cyclists, climbers, trail runners, ski mountaineering and snowshoe enthusiasts find an ideal environment here: no ski lifts, untouched landscapes, spectacular trails, peaks and cliffs, a “different kind of snow,” and rich biodiversity that follows the natural rhythm of the seasons.
The Valle Maira is a place where the outdoor experience intertwines with silence, authenticity, and direct contact with nature. An approach that, in recent years, has helped initiate a path of socio-economic and cultural revival, promoting the rediscovery of local identity and offering new opportunities to counter the depopulation of the highlands.
A territory to experience and protect, together
As a Consortium, we work year-round to support and coordinate this model through promotion, information, and management of the tourism offer: from the vallemaira.org portal (available in multiple languages), to collaborations with local and regional authorities, operators, and Italian and international media, from the digitalization of itineraries to the maintenance of the trail network, and including sustainable mobility services, tourist offices, and e-bike rentals.
Looking ahead, without losing balance
We believe that the results achieved are never final. Sustainable tourism must be nurtured, improved, and rethought over time.
The Valle Maira is not a destination to consume, but a territory to experience, understand, and respect. The Valle Maira Tourism Consortium was created for this very reason: to build networks, protect what makes the valley unique, and guide its development with responsibility and vision.
Life stories in Valle Maira
The project “Life Stories in Valle Maira” tells the behind the scenes of the people and businesses living and working in this territory.
It does so with images and videos created from entire days spent with the protagonists, with the calm and attention needed to capture the essence of things.
Because behind a served dish, a made bed, or a heartfelt piece of advice, there are people (often families), stories of choices, returns, resilience, and love for the valley.
