Faces of the Valley

Who are we?
(spoiler: ordinary people with a great passion for the Valle Maira)
We are not a team of superheroes. We are people who work every day to make tourism in the Valle Maira run smoothly, striving to do it well, with care and a smile. Here’s who you’ll find behind the scenes.
Valentina Scigliano
Projects, tour operators, and marketing (the creative one who moves people… and a few hiking boots)
Valentina is the technical director of the tour operator Visit Valle Maira: hands-on, creative, and tireless. She turns enthusiastic ideas into concrete (and preferably fundable) projects and strategies, coordinating everything without ever losing optimism.
She speaks English and German, loves the mountains and sports, and brings the same energy to every trip or experience she plans. If something in the Valle Maira captures your heart, there’s a good chance Valentina had a hand in it… probably with a pair of hiking boots on her feet.
For years, she has poured heart, dedication, and passion into the Valle Maira, with contagious enthusiasm.
Daniela Cesano
Administrative director (the one who really keeps everything together)
She handles administration, projects, and funding applications even when they try to run away.
Born and raised in the Valle Maira, she has traveled for pleasure and work just enough to know where to return. A professional gesturer, she adapts her talent to English and French as well.
If you don’t find her at work, look for her on a Valle trail, on a beach volleyball court, or, in winter, on the slopes. Alternatively, it’s quite likely she’s enjoying a good meal.
She doesn’t like the spotlight: she ensures everything flows smoothly without making noise.
If a project reaches the finish line without a hitch, Daniela was probably already there keeping an eye on it.
Alessandro Carucci
From sociologist to "mountaineer by choice"
Alessandro came to the Valle Maira to study it.
Then he decided to stay. After a PhD in Sociology on inner areas, he chose to turn research into daily life.
At the Consortium, he handles projects, fairs, relations with members and stakeholders, territorial promotion, and outdoor tourism.
He is the contact person for hiking and biking itineraries and for everything related to maps, trails, and territory enjoyment.
He speaks English, gets by in Spanish, and explains complex things in a surprisingly simple way.
When he’s not working, he often trains and, whenever possible, takes his workouts to the mountains: hikes, climbing, and via ferrata. A mix that gives him the right energy to navigate projects and deadlines.
Trails, maps, and clear ideas (more or less 😏).
Ludovica Scaletti
Hiking guide and "former Milanese who stayed by choice"
Ludovica needed to take a break. She really did.
After experiences in Italy and Europe, she began spending time in the Valle Maira working in hospitality and as a hiking guide. She is a professional guide, a communicator by nature, and an tireless walker.
At the Consortium, she handles tourist reception, projects, media, members, and communication content.
She speaks Spanish, English, and French, and has a natural talent for making people feel at home (even at high altitudes).
When she’s not working, she loves reading, going to the cinema, and, of course, walking: a simple way to recharge and keep looking at places with curiosity.
It was supposed to be a break. It became a choice.
Sara Mattalia
Sara is the person in charge of numbers, payments, and deadlines. With an organized and practical approach, focused on the substance of things, she takes care of administrative tasks, ensuring the team always has everything in order to proceed smoothly.
A discreet presence from the Valle Maira who, with pragmatism and dedication, helps us never lose sight of deadlines and the rules of the game.
The only one of us who isn’t afraid of an Excel sheet.
Sara Marchisio
Front Office and Smile
Sara is the youngest member of the team and is often the first face you’ll meet when you come in, whether you’re arriving, asking for information, or just stopping by for a “quick look.”
After a successful internship, we decided to keep her with us — her positive vibes and twenty-something energy are noticeable from the very first “good morning.”
Originally from the Valle Maira, she experiences this land with deep roots and genuine curiosity: from outdoor sports to the trails she has learned to know over time. Art and culture, in all their forms, are also part of what moves and inspires her.
Her studies have allowed her to learn the technical aspects of the sector in English and to speak a “petit peu” of French.
The journey begins here.
The faces of the Valley
The Valle Maira is not made up only of mountains, trails, and breathtaking views.
It is made above all of people.
Here you will meet managers, hoteliers, restaurateurs, innkeepers, producers, and artisans: they are the ones who bring the valley to life every day, making it vibrant and telling its story through their work. They are the true faces of the Valle Maira, the soul of the slow and authentic tourism that makes every experience unique and memorable. A space dedicated to those who open a door, prepare a dish, make a bed, cultivate the land, or welcome a guest with a sincere smile. Because behind every experience, there is always a story.
