Castlas Crag

Castlas Crag

One of the largest and most historic crags in the valley. Discovered and explored since the early 1970s, enlarged and remodeled over the years by a number of climbers, one of the most prolific being local Dino Degiovanni along with other valley people.
Today it presents several sectors with different climbing styles, although here the slab technique takes the lead. However, there is no shortage of vertical pitches on micro-pits and overhangs. Good/very good bolting. The rock is a very compact gneiss and quartzite. It can be climbed year-round due to the different exposure of the sectors.

The crag is located within a pleasant forest, reached by a 10 to 15-minute walk, leaving the car at the entrance to Borgata Castello di Roccabruna. From there, take the dirt road and follow it to a hairpin bend from which a narrow path through the woods starts and shortly leads to the crag. About 70 pitches divided into 4 sectors with grades ranging from 4 to 7c+.
Also worth mentioning is the presence of the “Via Normale” (“Normal Route”) over the beautiful central pillar, opened in the 1970s by Alpine Guide Nino Perino with the use of bolts, today an easy 4-pitch multipitch equipped with bolts, ideal for those approaching this discipline.
