Shuttle service to the Gardetta plateau

The shuttle service to the Gardetta Plateau starts again!

From SUNDAY, 4 August 2024, until TUESDAY, 20 August 2024, the shuttle service to the Gardetta Plateau will be continuously activated. Attached is the municipal ordinance on the road closure.

The Gardetta Plateau is an area of exceptional scenic and naturalistic value and the discovery of Triassic reptile footprints in the area has also increased the geological importance of this site.

Thanks to the presence of fossil remains of marine organisms, coastal dunes, pebbles from ancient rivers and volcanic lava flows, it was recognised as an Italian Geological Heritage Site in 2001.

The ordinance issued by the mayor of Canosio restricts traffic on the Grange Selvest-Colle del Preit stretch of road and on the plateau with the aim of preserving the environment and directing guests to a slow form of tourism, which focuses on details, which sustains and values the surrounding spaces and which moves in search of relaxation in places in close contact with nature.

The initiative promoted and organised by the Maira Valley Tourist Consortium, in collaboration with the Municipality of Canosio, by means of a shuttle service will allow tourists and hikers to reach the magnificent plateau, crossroads of three valleys, in complete tranquillity. The project also aims to ensure the safety of users, as the access road to the plateau is winding and only allows alternating traffic.

The shuttle service provides ordinary rides (Grange Selvest/Colle del Preit route) from 8:15 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 17:30.

Extra trips are also planned (route Borgata Vernetti di Marmora – Canosio (in front of the Town Hall) – Borgata Preit di Canosio – Grange Selvest parking area – Colle del Preit), with a trip to Colle del Preit at 7:55 a.m. from Borgata Vernetti di Marmora and a return trip to Borgata Vernetti at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased directly on board the shuttle bus.

Dogs are allowed provided they are kept on a leash and if possible in arms.

Extraordinary run from Borgata Vernetti di Marmora at 7.55 a.m. to Colle del Preit. Return to Borgata Vernetti di Marmora from Colle del Preit at 17:30.
Ordinary Grange Selvest runs to Colle del Preit: continuous timetable from 8:15 to 12:20 and from 13:40 to 17:15
Regular services from Colle del Preit to Grange Selvest: regular timetable from 8:30 to 12:10 and from 13:30 to 17:30

Free for Valle Maira Card holders (the Card is provided free of charge to those sleeping in Valle Maira accommodation facilities and to residents. Attention! The free card is only valid if the coupon for the shuttle service is filled in at every point)

Possible suspension of the service

The organisation reserves the right to suspend the service on a daily basis in the event of totally adverse weather forecasts.
In this case the service suspension will be communicated via news on the vallemaira.org website and on the Valle Maira social pages (FB and IG)
